Custom Shoe Manufacturer in China: A Buyer’s Sourcing Checklist

Searching for a custom shoe manufacturer in China is easier when every factory receives the same product brief. A picture can communicate style, but it does not define fit, materials, construction, testing or packaging. Use the checklist below before requesting quotations.

1. Define the footwear category and target wearer

Start with the shoe type, intended use, target customer, destination market and expected retail position. A casual lifestyle sneaker, canvas shoe, slipper and outdoor shoe require different factory capabilities and quality checkpoints.

2. Clarify the last, fit and size system

State the required size system, size range, target fit and any reference sample. Ask whether the proposed design can use an existing factory last and outsole or needs new tooling. Confirm how sizes will be graded and which sample size will be reviewed first.

3. Build a material specification

List the upper, lining, reinforcement, insole, outsole, laces and hardware. Replace vague terms such as “premium material” with measurable or identifiable requirements. Color references, thickness, hand feel, finish and restricted-substance requirements should be discussed before sampling.

4. Choose the construction route

Cemented, vulcanized, stitched and molded constructions involve different processes. Ask the supplier to explain which production steps it performs and which components come from outside partners. The quotation should clearly separate product development, tooling, samples and production costs.

5. Review branding without copying protected designs

Prepare original logos, labels, colorways and packaging. Do not ask a supplier to copy another brand’s logo or protected trade dress. Confirm each branding method, placement, size and color through artwork and a physical sample.

6. Create a footwear sample checklist

• Fit and internal length against the agreed size
• Upper material, color and surface consistency
• Stitching, bonding and outsole alignment
• Logo, labels and size markings
• Odor, sharp edges and visible adhesive
• Shoe box, tissue, inserts and shipping carton

7. Compare complete commercial terms

MOQ can differ for the shoe, outsole, custom color, label and printed box. Compare setup charges, sample terms, production lead time, payment terms, packed dimensions and inspection arrangements—not only the unit price.
